Breakfast: Time to Shake up Your LifeWhether you’re the type that sits down for a relaxing morning meal or you’re more the grab and go type you can shake up the morning ritual by enjoying your favorite foods.  Who says you can’t have chocolate or cookies for breakfast?

That’s right, meal preparation and eating should be enjoyable, fun, and spontaneous.  We have so many things in our lives that require us to be serious, straight faced and tight-jawed but food is not one of them.  Instead, lets let our hair down *figuratively that is, Vic and many men would have a hard time with this.  I’m a huge advocate of eating breakfast but I’ll never say it has to be anything but creative and delicious.

Today we started our day with a wonderful chocolate smoothie that actually looked more like chocolate pudding.  When I served it to Natasha she said, “Chocolate Pudding for breakfast?”  I smiled and shrugged my shoulders thinking “Why not?”

We eat breakfast to break our overnight fast, to provide our bodies with energy and nutrients to nurture our brain, but it’s not like there is just one food that can do this.  In fact I’ve learned that stir fried veggies with brown rice are just as wonderful a breakfast as porridge or indeed a chocolate smoothie.

Chocolate Berry Smoothie Recipe

  • One avocado
  • 1 cup mixed berries
  • 2 tablespoons cacao (chocolate)
  • 10 ground almonds
  • 2 tsp ground chia seeds (substitute ground flax seed)
  • .5 cup coconut milk (optional)
  • 1.5 cups water
  • Cinnamon
  • Vanilla extract
  • Stevia (optional) for added sweetness

Throw everything in the blender – mix, taste add more chocolate, vanilla etc, to your taste.  When Natasha tasted this she thought it needed more chocolate where as I thought it was perfect.  It’s easy to adjust so you can tailor make it to your guests or individual family members tastes, who doesn’t love that.

There you have it an incredible breakfast drink with tons of brain rich nutrients like antioxidants, protein, Omega-3, Omega-6, Omega-9 fatty acids, Oleic acid and many others that will quench your cells thirst and leave you energized for the day.  And it contains chocolate, Yum!

Eating a balanced diet as part of a healthy lifestyle doesn’t mean you have to eat cereal, toast and fruit for breakfast feel free to put on your creative cap and experiment.
